Wits University and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) are hosting a workshop.
The workshop brings together international, and South African based experts to discuss reform of global governance institutions and Africa’s response.
This year, 2025, marks a historic moment for Africa. For the first time the G20 summit is taking place in Africa amid a whirlwind start to the US President, Donald Trump’s historic comeback to the White House. As such, this African G20 summit takes place within great power rivalry that is threatening progressive institutional reforms and international norms. Pivotal in this disruptive global order are issues of governance, security, and migration. How will these issues play out in this increasingly mercurial geopolitical milieu? Where will Trump’s shock and awe approach leave global governance? How will it affect Africa?
This workshop will tease out these and other questions.
