Title: Traversing the Maze – An Unconventional Career Path From Engineering to Climate Science and Forestry. Presented By : Dr. Caroline Hardy
No-one ever said that your career has to follow a straight path. Dr Caroline Hardy tells the story of a non-linear career trajectory. Starting with studies in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering, she went on to build a computer-vision-driven self-solving maze system and attended summer school at the European Space Agency (ESA), delving into the depths of Earth Observation. It was during this time that her passion for studying the Earth through remote sensing was sparked. She went on to earn a Master’s and a PhD, focusing her research on using remote sensing data to identify and track hazardous storms and to investigate the surface urban heat island effect.
Amongst other roles, Caroline most recently worked as a principal data scientist where she analyzed hyperspectral data and created image processing routines and statistical tools to support geologists in their quest to identify the minerals which lie beneath the Earth’s surface.
