Fire in the sky and rocks from space

On 24 August 2024, a brilliant fireball lit up the skies over the Eastern Cape, followed by reports of meteorite fragments falling across the region.

Roger Gibson, Professor of Structural Geology and Metamorphic Petrology in the School of Geosciences at the Wits University, will deliver a public lecture at Nelson Mandela University unpacking the Nqweba bolide and meteorite fall.
