Celebrating Multilingualism for Inclusive and Quality Education

Wits University will commemorate International Mother Language Day (IMLD) with a special event aimed at celebrating linguistic diversity, fostering multilingual pedagogies, and promoting inclusive education. This year’s theme, Celebrating Multilingualism for Inclusive and Quality Education, aligns with Wits’ commitment to language inclusivity and epistemic access.

The event will bring together leading academics, language experts, staff, and students to engage in discussions, cultural showcases, and policy reflections on the role of mother tongue education in South Africa and beyond.

Programme Highlights

✅ Opening Address: The significance of International Mother Language Day and Wits’ language policy vision
✅ Keynote Address: Wits Giving the Edge – Translanguaging Practices in Higher Education & MTbBE in Basic Education
