You are invited to a high-level policy dialogue hosted by the Global Change Institute and the Southern African Towards Inclusive Economic Development Programme (SA-TIED) programme to explore the economic impacts of South Africa’s electricity crisis.

The discussion will focus on how load-shedding has disrupted economic recovery and employment dynamics while examining strategies to build resilience in South Africa’s energy sector.

Featured panelists include:

  • Aalia Cassim, Acting Chief Director for Microeconomic Policy at National Treasury;
  • Haroon Bhorat, Director of the Development Policy Research Unit at UCT;
  • Philippe Burger, Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at UFS; and
  • Joanne Yawitch, Head of the Just Energy Transition Project Management Unit in the South African Presidency.

Venue: Origins Centre, Wits University, Johannesburg (or online). This event is a hybrid gathering that offers both in-person and online attendance options.
