The exhibition brings together objects, images, symbols and languages that embody knowledge and narratives both near and far.
ANAMNESIS refers to a recalling of a supposed previous existence or an account of one’s medical history. ǂ’ANMÃSISA, is from the Kora/!Ora language which was spoken by the Korana and is now believed to be an almost extinct indigenous language with roots stretching to the original Khoi inhabitants of the early Cape. ǂ’ANMÃSISA has been translated as ‘Well-known’ by linguistic anthropologists. The exhibition brings together objects, images, symbols and languages that embody knowledge and narratives both near and far. They allow us to think across time and space, as a way to liberate and shift the narrow status quo and normative racial conceptions of subjectivity. Adrian Fortuin is currently completing his Master of Fine Arts at Wits University. The opening event is free. Enquiries: tammy.hodgskiss@wits.ac.za. Exhibition on until 9 November 2024 (entrance 30 students and pensioners, R60 adults).
