Centre of Excellence - Mathematical and Statistical Sciences

What is a Centre of Excellence?

The National Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) awarded the CoE-MaSS to be hosted at Wits University. The Centre has 11 active Focus Areas in 2017, and these are currently re-engineered on an annual basis to complement changes in line with the Centre’s expertise, and with local and global research niches.

The CoE-MaSS brings together pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics researchers from numerous Institutions around South Africa to focus on advancing cross-disciplinary research topics and developing national capacity in these scarce fields.

The CoE for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (CoE-MaSS) mandate relates to the following areas:
* Research
* Education and Training
* Information Brokerage
* Service Rendering
* Networking
