PROCEDURE FOR EXTRA TIME AND OTHER CONCESSIONS\n\n- Students should first register with DRU who will provide a referral letter to Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC) with recommendations for further assessment, if required\n- The closing date for applications is 30 April\n- Once a student has been assessed, a letter with extra time recommendations from CHWC will be sent to the Dean of the relevant Faculty for approval\n- The Dean will consider the recommendation for approval\n- The Faculty Registrar will communicate the Dean's decision to the student, course coordinator/s, School Admin Managers, Examinations and Graduation Office , Disability Rights Unit, Campus Health and Wellness Centre , and other relevant Faculty Registrars\n- DRU will then manage the annual renewal and update of each approved student\n- Students who qualify for extra time must produce their letters of permission at every examination\n\n3.2. PROCEDURE FOR CLASSROOM ACCOMMODATIONS\n\n- Students should first register with DRU who will then assess the student in order to identify any appropriate classroom accommodations \n- After being assessed, a letter of accommodation will be provided to the student \n- The student must present the letter of accommodation to each lecturer/instructor in order to discuss the accommodations\n- Any problems with the provision of accommodations by the lecturer/instructor must be brought to the attention of DRU\n- An updated letter of accommodation must be requested from DRU each year\n\n\n4. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY\n\nYou are responsible for ensuring that the Disability Rights Unit and Faculty are aware of your disability that may require accommodations in the educational process. You are also responsible for requesting accommodations in a timely manner so instructors can plan for those accommodations. \n\nReasonable Accommodations are not intended to alter the fundamental elements of the curriculum or program of study. You should maintain the same responsibility for your education as your peers - including attending lectures and keeping the same academic standards and appropriate behaviour.\n\n\n5. DRU RESPONSIBILITY:\n\nDRU has the right to:\n\n- Request current medical or psycho-educational documentation with regards to applications of reasonable accommodations. \n- Deny a request for accommodations if the documentation demonstrates that the request is not warranted, or if the individual fails to provide appropriate documentation.\n- Refuse an unreasonable accommodation which impose a fundamental alteration to a programme or activity of the University. \n- The DRU will maintain the confidentiality of records and communication, except where permitted by the student and by law. \n- Supply information and notes in accessible formats and use alternative formats where other services are time consuming or not available e.g. Dragon in the place of scribes.\n\n\n6. IMPORTANT DRU FORMS\n\n- DRU Registration Form - Must be completed every year by a student with a disability\n- Referral to Campus Health and Wellness for granting of Extra Time - This letter must be requested from the DRU before applying for any extra time for tests/exams.\n- Letter requesting Reasonable Accommodations from Lecturers - This letter must be requested from the DRU every year and submitted to your lecturer.\n- Request for Accessible Course Material - You must indicate your request for Accessible Course Material on the DRU Registration Form. Thereafter it is your responsibility to provide DRU with the required course material that needs to be converted into an alternative format. If you do not provide DRU with the material well in advance, we will not be liable in providing the accessible material on time!\n- Test and Exam Request Form - Should you qualify to write any tests/exams at the DRU, you must complete a Test/Exam Request Form at least a week before the scheduled test/exam date.
