Biometrics is Here

What is Biometrics?

It is a technical term used for body measurements that are distinct and measurable (eg. fingerprints) used for authentication purposes in access control systems.

Why are we changing to Biometrics?

This is to upgrade the existing access control system and to enhance the safety of the Wits community.

Where will the Biometric devices be installed?

The initial deployment will be at all perimeter entrance and exit points at boom gates and turnstiles on all campuses:

  • Braamfontein Campus East
  • Braamfontein Campus West
  • Parktown Campuses
Who needs to register?

Every active patron on campus including all staff members, students, visitors, contractors, library users and alumni.

What do I need?
  • As an existing active patron, all you need to bring is your exisiting access card
  • As a new patron with no existing card, you will need to go to any of the Kudu Card Offices in order to obtain you new Biometrics Access Card

East Campus: Kudu Card Office, Concourse, Ground Floor
Solomon Mahlangu House
West Campus: Concourse, First National Bank Building
Wits Education Campus: Kudu Card Office, 1st Floor, Admin Block
Wits Management Campus: Kudu Card Office, 1st Floor, Donald Gordon Building
Faculty of Health Sciences: Ground Floor, Concourse (next to staircase)
Alumni Relations: Alumni House, West Campus (Alumni only)
Property Infrastructure Management Development Building: PIMD Building, West Campus (Contractors only)
Professional Development Hub: PDH Building, East Campus (Wits Language School students only)
