Call for Funding Proposals

The Southern Centre for Inequality Studies at Wits University has embarked on an interdisciplinary research and policy project on inequality in the global south. We hereby invite new proposals for accelerator funding for projects on inequality in South Africa and the global south.

We welcome proposals on any aspect of the study of inequality, including topics related to understandings of, and strategies for overcoming, inequality. Successful applicants will be expected to submit a paper on their research and additionally to participate in the inaugural SCIS conference in September 2018.

The SCIS is able to offer a limited number of grants up to R65,000 to support research work on inequality: to fund small conferences, fieldwork, additional researchers and related activities. The funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. The grants are available to fulltime academic staff at Wits University, and current associates of the SCIS.

If you would like to apply, please submit, via email, a brief concept note of no more than two pages, a work plan, and a budget to Mr David Francis by 31 December 2017.

Closing date: 31 December 2017

Successful applicants will be contacted by 31 January 2018.
