Exploring 21st Century learning needs in the health science

The Faculty Teaching and Learning Symposium will be held in the Marie Curie Lecture Theatre on 14 May 2019.

Our International Scholar this year will be Professor Steven Durning, from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

Prof Durning is:

  • a professor of medicine and pathology at the Uniformed Services University (USU)
  • the Director of Graduate Programs in Health Professions Education.

He received his PhD from Maastricht University, on the topic of the influence of contextual factors on clinical reasoning. He has extended this work to include enhancing our understanding of clinical reasoning and its assessment to include unravelling the phenomenon of context specificity and incorporating biologic measures into this empirical work.

Prof Durning has published over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 20 book chapters, and has edited 5 books. He serves on a number of national and international organizations and is the Deputy Editor for Research for Academic Medicine.
