Overview

Doctor of Philosophy, Cultural Policy and Management Code: ADA02

Our PhD cohort is made up of professionals across the region, most of whom carry out their research projects remotely even before the Covid pandemic induced remote learning. Currently, one PhD candidate is full-time and works in the Department as an Academic Intern as part of mentoring the next generation of young academics.

Current research areas include: Arts Management, Arts-Culture Intellectual Property, Cultural Governance, Cultural Policy, Economic Institutions in Music Business, Community Arts, Informality and Formality of the Arts-Culture, and Management of Arts-Culture Organisations.

Entry Requirements

Basic Enrolment and Registration Requirements

Requirements for the PhD in the Field of Cultural Policy and Management by Coursework are a minimum of 70% in a MA Degree in Theatre and Performing Arts, Music/ Film and Television/Fine Arts/Visual Arts/Art History/Curatorial Studies/ Photography/ Museology/ Journalism or a related visual culture/creative arts field Applicants should demonstrable interest and some practice in creative industries/ cities/ cultural policy/ community arts centres/visual culture/creative arts field.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Requirements. We also consider applicants with either National Diploma or High National Diploma in a related field AND at least 5-10 years of professional practice in the field of cultural policy, arts administration, arts management, cultural governance, cultural entrepreneurship (or a related field in cultural policy and management in the creative arts field) may be considered based on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
