The SA/EU International Dialogue on Strengthening Digital Governance in South Africa provides the opportunity for the partners (the South African Department of Public Service and Administration, the Centre for Public Service Innovation and the Danish Agency for Digitisation of the Ministry of Finance) to engage in mutual learning through policy and practice dialogues. Tayarisha was appointed as the project coordinator in research and coordination of the policy dialogues of digital governance.
Carnegie postdoc award
Tayarisha was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship programme by Carnegie Diversifying the Academy (C-DTA), Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellows Grants 2021. The main purpose of the programme was to provide enabling grants to promote 10 African and Coloured academics who are in the system from senior lecturers to associate professors and from associate professors to full professors in the next two to five year period through a robust enabling and development programme.
WIC postdoc award
Tayarisha has been awarded a postdoctoral fellowship programme by the “Wits Innovation Centre” (WIC) , which was established in November 2021 as a key component of the Wits Innovation Strategy. The WIC runs various programmes and activities to promote and coordinate Innovation activities at Wits. One of the WIC’s prime objectives is to promote an “Innovation Mindset” at Wits. PhD students and Post-docs constitute a very important stakeholder group in the broader Wits community, and the “WIC Innovation Fellowship” was established to provide grow in this aspect. Having a selected group of PhD students and Post-docs as innovation role models will greatly enhance the WIC’s objectives. Four WIC Innovation Fellowships for Postdocs were made available for 2022 and Tayarisha was awarded one through the application submitted by its associate academics (Prof. Qobo, Prof. Mjumo and Prof. Geci).
Hanns-Seidel Foundation (HSF) award
Tayarisha has been awarded the Hanns-Seidel Foundation (HSF) funding. The award will serve to help inform African public sector engagement with key questions and exemplars related to digital transformation and governance in the digital age. The research engagements through the programme will inform a series of policy seminars, collectively forming a new policy knowledge compendium. Tayarisha will serves as the coordinating and implementation entity while the Hans Seidel Foundation will serve as the partner to Tayarisha, and as the lead programme and funding partner for this particular immediate-term initiative.
ICEGOV panel partnership, ICEGOV 2022 African Ministerial Pane
Prof. Mzukisi Qobo, Tayarisha’s acting director will be chairing the African Ministerial Panel at the ICEGOV 2022 conference (under the theme: Digital Governance for Social, Economic, and Environmental Prosperity) in Portugal scheduled for October 4th-7th 2022. Responsible AI conference
Prof. Geci was part of the Responsible AI conference (The African Observatory Launch Event) themed “Co-Creating The Research Agenda For Responsible AI in Africa” which was a hybrid online/in-person event that brought together AI policy-makers from across Africa and Telangana State in India with AI researchers and stakeholders on 31 March 2022. The event features as part of a four-day long programme for the policy-makers taking place in-person in Cape Town, South Africa, and supported by GIZ under their FAIR Forward initiative. Prof. Geci facilitated the programme “Co-Creating the Research Agenda for Responsible AI in Africa - Inclusive Smart Cities”.
