How to apply for own credits

Wits Student Finance has Digitised Student Own Credits and Student Bank Details.

Add / Edit your own banking details via self-service https://self-service.wits.ac.za/

Online Student Banking Details: How do I add or edit my bank account:

  • Login to self-service
  • Click on the “My Bank Account” tile
  • Click on the “Add / Update Account” tab
  • Capture your bank details in the required fields, and indicate if this is your account, parent account, sponsor account or external accommodation account
  • Read and accept the agreement

Once you have accepted the agreement, you will be redirected to the “Student Center” page

  • Click on the “Bank Account Confirmation” tab on the student center page
  • Select the “Bank account Confirmation” tab
  • Upload your scanned bank certified documents from your bank or certified bank statements
  • Click OK to submit
  • Bank details uploaded will be verified, and then available for use. (Check status on Self-Service)

Online Student Own Credit Application

An online process whereby students may apply for their own credits due to them, as a result of overpayment or deregistration or subsequent bursary payment /s resulting in a credit balance on the students fee account.

How do I claim own credits on my student fee account:

  • Login to self-service
  • Click on the “Apply for Own Credit” tile
  • Select application action tab “Begin New Application or Continue Existing Application”
  • Capture your payment details in the required fields, and indicate which bank account you wish to be paid into your account, parent account, sponsor account or external accommodation
  • Upload your scanned proof of payment and letter from person responsible for payment
  • Read and accept the agreement
  • Once you have accepted the agreement, you will receive an application number
  • Click on submit tab to complete your application
  • You will be able to track your application online, once it is verified by the Fees office.
