Welcome Day 2018

Welcome to Wits. At last you can be called a Witsie and remember that once a Witsie, you’re a Witsie for life.

As a new Witsie, you and your parents/guardians are invited to celebrate the beginning of your extraordinary and exciting new journey with us. It is a momentous time in your life and Welcome Day will enable you to better understand your new home. You will get to meet the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adam Habib, the senior executive team, as well as the Student Representative Council. We also have a series of planned activations to ignite your Wits spirit on the day.

Welcome day will take place on 28 January 2018 on the Library Lawns. There will be TWO Welcome sessions, each with an address by Prof. Adam Habib, a leading Wits academic and the SRC President.

First Session

Humanities and Engineering and the Built Environment @ 10:00 to 11:30

Second Session

Science, Health Sciences and Commerce, Law and Management @ 14:30 – 16:00

Residence students who have already arrived and settled into their respective new homes, will take guidance from the Director of Campus Housing and Residence Life on which Welcome Day session they will attend. To accommodate any overflow of guests, both Welcome sessions will also be live streamed.

Orientation Week

“Witsies Masihlangane”

Monday, 29 January 2018 - Friday, 2 February 2018

Orientation Week follows from Welcome Day. During this week students will learn the values of the Wits community, discover the full array of what can be done as a Wits student and how to find support when needed. Although there is much to learn, there are many student volunteers and staff members who are ready to offer advice and support throughout the transition to Wits. Some will be challenging whilst others will be meaningful.

The goal of O’ Week is to enable Witsies to consider how to explore and pursue intellectual and personal interests.

The programme will run daily across all campuses. Click on your Faculty for the full orientation programme.
