The School of Economic and Business Sciences is a research focused entity in the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. Over the years, the main priority of the school has been the improvement of research quality and productivity. According to the School’s research plan, the following key research areas are prioritised:

  • To raise research awareness;
  • For all Professors and Associate Professors to be considered "research active" in terms of the University’s definition;
  • To engage all staff (excluding staff on the Tutor Career track with no research expectation) at
  • To facilitate and monitor research mentoring of junior academics, particularly those on least bi-annually on planned research;probation;
  • To maintain sound research management and recording at School level;
  • To maintain the volume of accredited research output, following the increase achieved between 2013 and 2016, without decreasing quality;
  • To increase staff qualifications, particularly the proportion of staff with PhDs;
  • To increase the number of staff who hold NRF ratings;
  • To increase the School's capacity to generate and manage research grants; and
  • To encourage the development and maintenance of an institutional culture that enables all staff to be "research active".
