We welcome academics, researchers and students who would like to be part of this exciting environment. It is our ideal that our students should leave our School equipped with knowledge, skills and attributes that will make them not only proud and competent, but also responsible citizens.
Situated in Johannesburg in the economic and commercial heart of the country on the Wits University Braamfontein Campus West, the School of Economic and Business Sciences (SEBS) focuses on business and economic sciences and services a broad range of students drawn mainly from within the CLM Faculty.
A large School that encompasses many disciplines, SEBS is involved in research across a wide range of areas. We house various research institutes including the African Microeconomic Research Umbrella (AMERU); the Institutions and Political Economy Group (IPEG); and the Macro-Financial Analysis Group (MFAG).
From a teaching perspective, our undergraduate Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree includes a broad spectrum of courses, from economics and finance, through insurance and information systems, to marketing and human resources management. This affords students some degree of specialisation, depending on the area of business in which they are most interested.
We also offer an undergraduate degree in Economic Science (BEconSc) – a specialist qualification that provides students with skills in mathematical and statistical techniques used by economists and actuarial scientists.
At the postgraduate level, all six disciplines in the school – Economics, Finance, Insurance and Risk, Information Systems, Management and Human Resource Management, and Marketing – offer postgraduate qualifications, from Honours through to Masters and Doctoral degrees.
