Welcome Day 2019
WELCOME to the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. We are delighted that you are joining us and hope that your studies at Wits will be successful and enjoyable.
As a new Witsie, you and your parents/guardians are invited to celebrate the beginning of your extraordinary and exciting new journey with us. It is a momentous time in your life and Welcome Day will enable you to better understand your new home. You will get to meet the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adam Habib, the senior executive team, as well as the Student Representative Council. We also have a series of planned activations to ignite your Wits spirit on the day.
Welcome day will take place on 27 January 2019 on the Library Lawns. There will be TWO Welcome sessions, each with an address by Prof. Adam Habib, a leading Wits academic and the SRC President.
Humanities and Engineering and the Built Environment @ 10:00 to 11:30
Science, Health Sciences and Commerce, Law and Management @ 13:00 – 14:30
To accommodate any overflow of guests, both Welcome sessions will also be live streamed.
Residence students who have already arrived and settled into their respective new homes, will take guidance from the Director of Campus Housing and Residence Life on which Welcome Day session they will attend.
Monday, 28 January 2019 - Friday, 1 February 2019 “Wits Ke Yaka"
Orientation Week follows from Welcome Day. During this week students will learn the values of the Wits community, discover the full array of what can be done as a Wits student and how to find support when needed. Although there is much to learn, there are many student volunteers and staff members who are ready to offer advice and support throughout the transition to Wits. The aim of 'O Week' is to enable Witsies to consider how to explore and pursue intellectual and personal interests.
You are about to embark on one of the most exciting and enjoyable phases of your life. To ensure your journey is a success, Wits has developed an Orientation Programme that features a variety of workshops and activities that meet the needs of incoming students. These include but are not limited to campus tours, meeting faculty and staff, resource seminars and fun filled activities to make friends. We are delighted that you have chosen Wits and hope that your experience will be successful and enjoyable.
The programme will run daily across all campuses. Click on your Faculty below for the full Orientation programme.
