'Business in the Bantustans: Lebowa and the Making of an 'Entrepreneurial Class'

Wednesday 30 August @ 13h15-14h15 in room 207, 2nd floor, Robert Sobukwe Block, East Campus

Speaker: Laura Phillips

Laura Phillips is a PhD student in the History Department at NYU. She began researching the Bantustans when she and Phil Bonner discovered the Lebowa archives in the basement of the old legislature building in Lebowakgomo in 2011. Her PhD builds on these visits to the archives to examine the development of new processes of accumulation and the making of a middle class in the former Lebowa Bantustan.
