The Faculty of Health Sciences Postdoctoral Forum is open to all Health Sciences postdocs and their hosts. There are more than 60 postdocs associated with the Faculty and the postdocs mainly reside at Medical School, Public Health, National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) and the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto. With postdocs spread across such a wide area, the postdoc forum aims to keep postdocs up to speed with administrative issues, provides an opportunity for postdocs to raise concerns and provides support throughout the stages of postdocs’ fellowship. Additionally, the forum aims to increase the feelings of inclusion and support for postdocs who are placed in remote departments or locations.
The forum has quarterly meetings, which rotate around the three main locations mentioned above. Additionally there are two social events a year, which coincide with the quarterly meeting on one occasion. An executive committee of three to five postdocs runs the forum.
Postdocs communicate at this meeting and through an email list. To add your name to the email list and be kept up to date, please email Mandisa.Habana@wits.ac.za.
The forum, with the support of the Faculty, hosts a biannual symposium for postdocs. This symposium show cases the diverse and exciting range of research being carried out by the Faculty’s postdocs and is an opportunity for networking with other postdocs, hosts and other interested parties.
