Wits Fundis an independent non-profit registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. It was formed by a group of Wits University alumni to raise funds in the United States for approved programs and purposes at Wits University, and to provide U.S.-based donors with a way to make a donation to Wits that is tax-deductible in the United States. Under U.S. law, contributions to Wits Fund are deductible for tax purposes if: (a) Wits Fund reviews and approves the Wits project as being in furtherance of Wits Fund's own exempt purposes; and (b) Wits Fund maintains full control and discretion as to the use of the contributions.
