In January this year, 15 staff members, postdocs and postgraduate students travelled to Bloemfontein for the 5th annual Igneous and Metamorphic Studies Group Meeting, hosted by the University of the Free State. Wits had the largest contingent at the meeting. Grant Cawthorn, Allan Wilson, Lew Ashwal, Lorenzo Milani, Jeremie Lehmann, Solani Mhlanga, Ramphelane Maila, Grace Coetzee and Grant Bybee all gave excellent presentations. PhD student Trishya Owen-Smith was awarded best student presenter at the meeting, for her talk, “Linking plutonic cumulates to their volcanic products in the 132 Ma Etendeka LIP, Namibia.”
