DESCRIPTION:This conference consolidates multi-country research findings from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia. The findings draw on original research conducted in five countries – South Africa, DRC, Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia - funded by the Open Society Foundations. Key aspects of the research included taking stock of green mineral endowments in these countries and outlining the structural transformation potential for the extraction, beneficiation and exportation of the minerals. In this way, mineral wealth is not conceived of as resource curse, but rather reframed as a potential driver of structural transformation, provided it is leveraged strategically.
