The Wits HIV/AIDS Programme (WAP) is a strategic response to the global impact of HIV and AIDS, especially amongst the adolescent population in sub-Saharan Africa. To be relevant and a key agent in education, prevention and care, the university regards HIV and AIDS as more than a medical concern. The institutional programme, guided by the Wits HIV/AIDS policy, is co-ordinated by a university forum and is implemented and integrated into the university's core functions of teaching, research and services.
Points to ponder...
The WAP is aligned to the Wits 2022 strategic framework and the 2013 strategy. It seeks to contribute to the quality of Wits’ graduates by provoking greater interrogation of gender, culture and sexual orientation so that divides which fuel discrimination and stigma are addressed as part of the institutional learning.
