|Welcome to the online home of FNB Wits University Rugby Club, one of the few truly student - oriented rugby clubs in South Africa. Rugby was first played at Wits in 1909, making FNB Wits Rugby Club one of the oldest rugby clubs in Gauteng. Over the years, the Club has produced players of the calibre of Springboks James Small, Richard Prentis, Wilf Rosenberg and Owen Nkumane, as well as many provincial players. |
We have a number of senior teams in the Canterbury Pirates Grand Challenge League, as well as Under 21 and Under 19 teams. The Interfaculty League features faculty teams from within the University, and provides an opportunity for players who prefer not to play league rugby, to still participate, albeit on a more social level. The Club participates in the annual University Sports South Africa tournament, and undertakes short tours to venues around South Africa. We also regularly host touring teams from overseas.
We have a group of talented, innovative coaches, who have set their sights on total success for Wits Rugby. Attractive bursaries are awarded each year by the Wits Sports Council and the Rugby Club.
