Varsity Shield
Wits Rugby is keenly anticipating the 2016 Varsity Shield competition after an excellent 2015 campaign (click here to see how we fared) which saw a very young Wits team reach the final. With 2016 being a promotion year there is everything to play for as we go about the task of achieving Varsity Cup status.

The 2015 USSA rugby week held at UJ from 29 June to 3 July featured teams from 32 tertiary institution campuses and Wits fared extremely well, finishing the week ranked 5th in the A division. Click here to see all the results.

Pirates Grand Challenge
The Wits Rugby Club competes in the prestigious Pirates Grand Challenge (PGC) league which, in addition to being the oldest club rugby competition in South Africa, is also widely acknowledged as the country’s premier club competition. The club fields 5 teams – 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, Under 21’s and Under 19’s.  Click here for the remaining 2015 fixtures.

Steinhoff Wits Internal Rugby League
The internal rugby league (IRL) is contested between faculties, residences and societies as well as a team each from Monash University and the Midrand Graduate Institute. The league currently comprises nine teams: Steinhoff Junction/Men's Res; Steinhoff MasakhaneSteinhoff Medics; Steinhoff Monash; Steinhoff Noswal Hall; Steinhoff SAUJS; Steinhoff SHA; Midrand Graduate Institute Tigers and Steinhoff Commerce.

The IRL provides the ideal platform for students who do not have the time or inclination  to play in the more competitive Pirates Grand Challenge league to showcase their talents on a Wednesday evening in front of their fellow students. The league starts in March and runs, with breaks for exams and the mid-year vacation, until September. The IRL co-ordinator is Al Leonard. Click here for the remaining 2015 fixtures.
