WITS FOOTBALL CLUB (est. 1922) - 90 years on and still going strong!

2013 AmaTuesdayz league   Wits kicked off the 2013 season of the USSA Gauteng League - the AmaTuesdayz league - on Tuesday 12 March against NWU Vaal with a resounding win for the women's team (above, left). They thumped their southern Gauteng rivals 10-0. In their game (left) the men's team scored a come-from-behind 2-1 win after falling behind in the first half to a goal by NWU Vaal's Maphike (airborne), pictured here outjumping Wits defender Lecki (centre) to head home .

Wits Internal Football League (WIFL)   As one of the oldest student football leagues at higher education level, the WIFL is well and alive on campus. There are 48 teams in the WIFL where societies, faculties, residences and friends participate with the aim of interacting with other fellow Witsies.  The WIFL has three divisions (Premier, First and Second) and two competitions (the Schloss Cup – for Premier & First Division  and the Baxter Cup – for the second division) that take place on the West Campus and Marks Park Football fields from Monday – Thursday between 18H00 – 21H30, March till September. To all our teams we say: Let’s make 2013 a great year for student football on campus. Follow the league's progress at www.wifl.leaguerepublic.com

Wits student teams   Players are selected from the Internal League to represent the Wits in the USSA (University Sport South Africa) games and also the Local FA league matches.

Women's football at Wits   The Wits Ladies Football team plays in the USSA Gauteng League and the Rand Central League. The team also occassionally participates in external tournaments such as the annual Zodwa Khoza Cup

Futsal   Futsal, a fast-growing, 5-a-side variation of the game, has been introduced on campus. Matches are played in Hall 29 on Fridays. These games are gaining momentum and popularity, so in 2013 register your team of 10 friends early as spaces are limited.

The Bidvest Wits first team

Since the end of Feb 2013 the Bidvest Wits first team has had a fair run of rersults, having beaten both Chippa Utd and Maritzburg Utd, and drawn with Kaizer Chiefs.  The team is currently (mid-March 2013) in sixth place in the Premier Soccer League.
