Orienteering Club 2012Orienteering is one of the smaller sports clubs at Wits but one with a promising future.
Orienteering combines walking or running, with the skill of navigation.

A map and compass are used to find checkpoints in a variety of different terrains including
forests, bushveld and schools. The Club’s activities are not limited to Orienteering with
members competing in adventure racing, trail running and the occasional triathlon.

2011 was a very successful year for the Club. Four members were selected for the Junior
World Orienteering Championships in Poland while Michael Crone represented South
Africa at the Senior World Champs in France. At a national level, Michael won the SA
Sprint Champs while Sarah Pope won the Long Distance race. A highlight for the club
was a bronze medal in the relay at SA Champs.

In 2012, the Orienteering club hopes to introduce many more people to the sport. Regular
training sessions will be held at our clubhouse in the Science Stadium. Senior members will
be working hard to be selected to represent SA in either Slovakia or Switzerland.

If you are interested in a mental and physical challenge then come and try your hand
at Orienteering.
