The Wits University Boat Club was established in 1924 and is one of the oldest rowing clubs in the country.
It has a proud and illustrious history and each passing season contributes more heritage and tradition.

The rowing season runs from January to September. The club has a boat shed situated at Wemmer Pan, a short

distance from the Wits Campus. Training also occurs at Roodeplaat Dam in the sprint season ( January to April),
which consists of VLC Sprints, River Vaal Regatta,, Buffalo Regatta, USSA Sprints and Gauteng and South African
Championship Regattas. The Vaal River is used for winter Boat race training until the event at the beginning of
September.  Although these venues are sometimes quite a drive away, convenient lift schemes are always
arranged to make the sport as accessible as possible.
