The Wits Chess Club competes in the 1st Division of the Gauteng Chess League (2nd highest division), following promotion from the 2nd Division in 2010.

The USSA (University Sports South Africa) National Championships were held at the University of the Fort Hare from 28 November to 02 December 2011, where the Wits team achieved 1st place in the Men’s section for the second year in a row. Lack of female participation in the activities of the Wits Chess Club resulted in us being unable to send a women’s team to the USSA Championships. This is something we aim to work on in 2012. 

Whether you’re a beginner who has just learnt to play chess, or a seasoned veteran; you are invited to come to our practice sessions.
