The Braamfontein Cluster comprises four self-catering residences each within 50m of the East Campus, and a fifth one near the new Constitutional Court.
BRAAMFONTEIN CENTRE RESIDENCE Mixed gender, self-catering

Braamfontein Centre located on the corner of Bertha and Jorissen Streets in Braamfontein, was donated to the University by Anglo-American in the late 1980s to meet the rising need to accommodate students who came from disadvantaged communities.
The residence houses 254 students and has two TV rooms, laundry facilities, a group study area, a large function room, a tuckshop and a computer mini-lab. The furnished flats are divided into single and double bedrooms with up to four students per apartment. Each apartment has its own bathroom, toilet and kitchen.
Braamfontein Centre is 5 minutes walk from most campus amenities. It is ideally located for both study and relaxation. Shopping areas, restaurants and transport facilities are close at hand. Several functions are organised annually to encourage an environment that combines educational and social experiences.

CAMPUS LODGE Mixed gender, self-catering, postgraduate

This residence is situated just off-campus near the southeast corner of the East Campus. The residence accommodates 50 postgraduate students in bachelor and shared unfurnished flats and 20 senior students in bed-sitting rooms with communal kitchens and bathrooms.
There is a spacious TV common room which is used by students for various social and academic-related activities.
The SA Police Service has a reporting station on the ground floor of the building.

ESSELEN STREET RESIDENCE Mixed gender, self-catering

Esselen Street Residence is situated at 7 Esselen Street on the west edge of Hillbrow, one of the most cosmopolitan areas of Johannesburg. The Residence is 100 metres from the new Constitutional Court and is within walking distance of the Main Campus. An hourly free bus service links the residence with all Wits campuses. Bookshops, restaurants, hospitals, shops and businesses of all sorts are only a stone s throw away. The residence is situated on a major bus route, which makes the central city accessible within ten minutes.
This residence has recently been partially renovated. It houses 343 students mostly in double rooms, as single rooms are limited. Each study/bedroom has its own fridge, and each of the floors has two or three communal kitchens. There is a large laundry room with washers and dryers. Also available in the residence are two TV rooms with DSTV, a video room, a party room, table tennis and snooker tables, and a gymnasium. There is a spacious study area and a computer centre with 8 PCs linked to the Internet, with a drawing room complete with drawing boards for engineering and architectural students.

GRADUATE LODGE AND SOUTH COURT
These two small residences are located in Jorissen Street, opposite Senate House, and function as a single unit. Comprising 19 two-bedded studio apartments, this community is much favoured for its convenient location.
