COST OF ATTENDANCE (CoA)

The Cost of Attendance for a student is an estimate of a student’s educational expenses for the academic year/period of enrolment at Wits University. Below is a breakdown of how much an average student might require per academic year, this list is not exhaustive but provides basic guidelines subjected to your program of choice.

DISBURSEMENTS

First-time undergraduate students

The disbursement process for first time undergraduate students can only be initiated 30 days after registration. You will receive your loan in two equal disbursements in the first and the second semesters of the University’s academic year.  The second disbursement will only be released after the assessment of your academic progress.  Your progress should be satisfactory in accordance with the Faculty standards and requirements.The first installment from the Federal Aid will take 30 days to be transferred into your South African bank account; it is advisable to have funds available to cover costs in the interim. 

Postgraduate and returning undergraduate students

The disbursement process will be initiated the day after registration for all postgraduate and returning undergraduate students. It will also take up to 30 days for the funds to be in your South African bank account. You will receive your loan in two equal disbursements, one in the first semester and the other in the second semester after assessment of your academic progress. Your progress should be satisfactory in accordance with the Faculty standards and requirements.
