The Student Enrolment Centre (SEnC) handles the undergraduate admissions in the University.

Application Procedure

  • Students should submit the following documents as soon as possible to the Student Enrolment Centre:
  • A COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM AND THE NON-REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE (in the form of a bank draft made payable to the University of the Witwatersrand, in the South African currency);

In the case of school-leavers:

  • Certified copies of your current educational qualifications.
  • A detailed Mathematics syllabus of the last two years in school may be required in certain instances.
  • Sworn English translations of documents are required.
  • Students who are yet to write their final exams, should submit their recent school report.

In the case of an applicant with university experience:

  • Applicants who are attending, or have attended, a university outside the Republic of South Africa, must submit an academic transcript that covers the period of study. Occasional or exchange students are required to submit a detailed curriculum of all the courses covered, especially if they intend on being granted exemption from courses at the University.

N.B. APPLICANTS IN THE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCE MUST HOLD THE GCE ?A? LEVEL OR HIGSCE, THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALOUREATE OR THE GERMAN ARBITUR.

N.B. ALL FEE STRUCTURES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE ON A YEARLY BASIS.

N.B! DO NOT WAIT FOR YOUR MATRICULATION EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE BEFORE APPLYING FOR ADMISSION TO THE UNIVERSITY.

Once an applicant has submitted the documents, he/she will receive acknowledgement of receipt of the application. The acknowledgement letter contains a reference numbers which is known as a 'Person/Application number'. This number should be quoted every time an applicant contacts Wits.

A letter will be sent to an applicant once a decision is made on any one of the programmes (degree) choices. The letter gives further instructions (e.g. pay a deposit to secure the offer of a place, or attend an interview, or write a selection test).

  • Applicants may be given a provisional offer or be invited to attend an interview or a selection test.
  • Successful applicants receive a letter offering a firm place, information about the registration and orientation programme and fees information
  • Applicants must reply to firm-place letter to let us know whether they are coming to Wits.

Changed your mind about your course of study?

Let Student Enrolment Centre (SEnC) know in writing what your new programme (degree) is (do not submit a new application form).

Please Note: Check with SEnC to make sure applications are still open for your new programme (degree).
