Wits courts SA's super achievers

When Wits was ranked the top university in South Africa and on the continent this year, it became an even more attractive study destination, especially to South Africa’s best and brightest.

This weekend Wits hosted its second annual Top 100 event, with the top 100 applicants for 2015 attending the programme. The event provides an opportunity for the country’s top matriculants (based on the Admissions Point Score calculated from Grade 11 results), an exclusive experience of Wits University. Last year saw the event held for the first time and was described by organisers as “equally successful” this time round.  

Wits Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Adam Habib and the outgoing President of the Student Representative Council, Shafee Verachia, spoke to the learners about why Wits should be their first choice.

“You represent hope that this society can be transformed. In a context where we have an education system in crisis, we are particularly excited to have you represent yourselves, your families, communities and country,” said Habib.

He used two video vignettes showcasing why Wits has the top teaching and research programmes, highly sought graduates and is a place where students can have fun.
