
The Wits Faculty of Health Sciences Research Office hosts the 7th Wits Prestigious Research Lecture on Thursday, 17 May 2012 at 17h30 at the Johannesburg Hospital Auditorium.
Entitled Towards malaria eradication – myth or reality, the lecture will be presented by Professor Maureen Coetzee, Director: Malaria Entomology Research Unit at the Wits Faculty of Health Sciences and DST/NRF South African Research Chair Initiative Chair in Medical Entomology and Vector Control, and Professor Thérèsa Coetzer, Head of the Plasmodium Molecular Research Unit and Head of the Red Cell Membrane Research Unit in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Haematology in the Faculty’s School of Pathology and the National Health Laboratory Service.
This follows the annual World Malaria Day commemorations, taking place worldwide today, 25 April 2012, focusing on malaria, the disease that has become notorious as being one of Africa’s deadliest ailments.
The lecture will be closed by Yvonne Chaka Chaka, singer and President of the Princess of Africa Foundation. Chaka Chaka is the UNICEF and Rollback Malaria Goodwill Ambassador in Africa, and has recently become the first African woman to receive the World Economic Forum's Crystal Award.
