Joburg dance lovers are in for a treat. Esther Nasser, Artistic Director of the Tshwane Dance Theatre (TDT) , presents: “15 Minutes of Fame 2” as part of WALE. In 2011 Esther Nasser asked choreographers to create a work lasting 15 minutes which would excite, stimulate, push the envelope, and burst onto the stage in an eruption of visual pleasure, emotion, intelligence, and joy.
Following the resounding success of 15 Minutes of Fame 1 in 2011, the second edition of this much acclaimed initiative “15 Minutes of Fame 2”is a welcome addition to WALE 5.0. This new program, like its predecessor, gives new choreographers exactly 15 minutes each to choreograph a work that will showcase the superb technical and artistic skills of the TDT. Three new works will be introduced:
Zenzele Letsoela (trainee)
“Aside from the famous Andy Warhol quote that each person would be famous for 15 minutes in their lifetime, I wanted to challenge the choreographers to make a statement of their work in 15 minutes. The best they could deliver in 15 minutes. This time frame allows the choreographers to show their mettle without becoming convoluted.” Esther Nasser to Steyn du Toit
