Breakfast with Denis Beckett

The Wits Paediatric Fund is hosting a Breakfast with Denis Beckett, one of SA's finest writers and journalists, to raise funds in support of the paediatric units at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital; Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital; and Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital.

Beckett is a perennial optimist with sharp wit, and an enormous affection for his country, its peoples, and the incredible stories they generate. He attended Wits University where he attained a BA and LLB. He moved from being an Advocate to becoming a journalist. For eleven years he published and edited a leading political magazine, Frontline, which won numerous journalism prizes. In 1994 he ventured into television and hosted Beckett's Trek, which documented the realities of contemporary South Africa.

As an author he has written 5 books, been a regular columnist for Beeld, The Sowetan, Sunday Times, City Press and many more. He twice received the `SFW Award for Enterprising Journalism`; the Shell / JCC `Four Outstanding Young South Africans` citation and the Mondi Magazine Award.
