The future of weak professionals

The Wits Education Policy Unit is hosting Professor Michael Young from the University of London who will deliver a seminar entitled What is the future of weak professions? Thinking about the role of professional knowledge.

The session will consist of a short introduction by Prof. Young, followed by discussion.

Young is Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of London, and Visiting Professor at the Universities of Bath and the Witwatersrand, through the Wits EPU, and Beijing Capital Normal University. He is Distinguished Fellow, School of Critical Studies in Education, University of Auckland and a Fellow of the City Guilds of London Institute. His recent book, Bringing Knowledge Back In (2007) won a prize for outstanding books on education. He is currently co-editing Educating for the Knowledge Economy with Hugh Lauder and colleagues at Bath. He is Assistant Editor of the Journal of Education and Work, and a Consulting Editor for the British Journal of Sociology of Education, International Studies in Sociology of Education, and Critical Studies in Education.
