About Johannesburg

Johannesburg is undoubtedly one of the world?s most diverse and vibrant cities, which is the economic powerhouse of Africa. Jo?burg also known as Jozi or Egoli, is the largest city in South Africa and is also one of the 40 largest metropolitan areas in the world. The city has its routes in gold and diamond mining as millions descended on the mineral rich Witwatersrand hills.

Much of the infrastructure, development, business and tourism has developed around gold and diamond mining. While much of the money and commercial business has moved out of the city into the suburbs, the city is starting to see an unbelievable revival.
Originally serving as a starting point for travels to other parts of SA and Africa, Johannesburg is becoming one of the regions most visited and well run tourism and business centres. The city is home to a number of world-class museums, galleries, sports stadiums, safaris, memorials and other attractions which are scattered throughout the city.

Johannesburg is also serviced by the largest and busiest airport in Africa which provides the gateway to international air travel. The recent launch of the rapid bus system is intended to provide world class transport for both South Africans and international visitors. The imminent arrival of the Gautrain will further improve the transport infrastructure of Gauteng and provide safe and efficient transport. With its cool Winters and fantastic sunshine filled Summers, Johannesburg is an ideal destination to visit throughout the year.
