
Applications are invited for the above position from suitably qualified Technician. The incumbents will be responsible to ensure the smooth running of Physical Science Workshop.
Key job functions include:
¨ Manufacturing of parts and equipment for the Schools of Physics/Chemistry
¨ Maintaining healthy and safe working conditions and practice in the workshop
¨ Experience or knowledge of vacuum equipment
¨ Sound welding skills
¨ Any other tasks or activities which fall within the general functioning of the
School of Physics and Chemistry as determined by the Head of School/Chief Technician
Minimum qualifications/requirements/criteria: Senior Technical qualification – minimum N3. Specialization in fitting & turning of tool making. Trade Test Certificate (Olifantsfontein). Relevant years of experience in a similar working environment. Practical workshop skills (i.e. lathe and milling work, welding, woodworking, use of hand tools and general plumbing ability). Must be capable of working with minimal supervision. Sound housekeeping and time management skills. Good communication, interpersonal relationship, problem solving and organizational skills. Knowledge of the University environment and procedures is desirable.
