Michaela Vrey



Michaela Vrey born and raised in Hamburg, Germany graduated from the University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg in 2000.
After successfully completing her PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand she undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pretoria.

In 2007 Michaela decided to move from the pure research arena into a more commercial space. This led to taking up the position of R&D Manager at COMPS (Centre of Materials and Process Synthesis) and to advance in 2009 to a Director at that Centre.
The focus of this role lies in the developing of commercialisation strategies that allow research ideas to develop into sustainable, applicable technology solutions that are economically viable.

One of the current projects is the development of the BeauTifueL project which was showcased at COP 17 in Durban in 2011.
