CALS mourns the loss of Mr Gednezar Dladla, who passed away on the morning of 18 October 2015.
CALS mourns the loss of Mr Gednezar Dladla, who passed away on the morning of 18 October 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. Mr Dladla was a remarkable community leader and environmental activist who campaigned tirelessly for the rights of the mine-affected Somkhele community in KwaZulu Natal.
Mr Dladla was a founding member and deputy chairperson of the Mining and Environmental Justice Community Network of South Africa (MEJCON-SA) – a network of communities impacted by mining. He will be remembered for his quiet dignity, courage and commitment to seeking environmental justice. We remain deeply saddened by his loss and wish his friends, colleagues and family strength during this difficult time.
