Wits Has Talent

- By Wits University

Can you sing, dance, act? Are you an impressionist, acrobat, stand-up comic? Does everyone say “my, you are so talented"?

If you are, then audition for the 2015 Wits Has Talent competition and who knows, you may be the ultimate winner of some amazing prizes.

Produced by Wits Theatre in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, Wits Has Talent is open to all staff and students of the Wits community. Auditions will be held from 21 - 22 July at 10:00 -16:00 to weed out the very very talented from the “just” talented. The competition is open to all who may have secret talents ranging from fire eating to extreme tumbling. If you have a more regular talent like standup comedy or are an undiscovered diva or a tap-toeing, ankle-clinking dancer in your bathroom kind of talent … we want to see you too.

The show's format is loosely based on Britain Has Talent devised by Simon Cowell except there is no public vote, no callbacks and no Wild card except for the presence of our Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adam Habib who will be one of our judges alongside celebrities at the finals. Once you have entered, the competition coordinator will call you with the time of your audition. The audition panels headed by Gita Pather, Director of Wits Theatre will shortlist the most impressive 25 Acts for the semifinals to be held in the Wits Theatre on 29 July at 18:00.  From this amazing array of creative performances, the 10 finalists will be chosen to compete for the Best Solo Act, Best Ensemble Act and Most Innovative Talent in the Wits has Talent Finals on 7 August at  the Wits Theatre.  The winning acts will be recipients of great prizes with the VC very kindly offering a bursary to the Best Solo Act.

All acts must be no longer than three minutes and performers must provide their own specialist equipment. Be prepared to dazzle us with three different acts because who knows you may reach the finals! We will have a stage set up with a backline. Entries close on Friday, 26 June at 12 noon. The final show will take place on Friday 7 August.

So act now and enter by collecting a Wits Has Talent Entry form from Wits Theatre, SDLU offices or the SRC reception.
