1. Green OA Route (preferred option)
a. Publishing in a conventional DHET accredited, peer-reviewed journal and then depositing copies of the full-text published works (either the postprint version (i.e. final, peer-reviewed & edited version which is submitted to the publisher for publication) or the publishers’ final published PDF version, as well as conference presentations, data sets and other scholarly works, into Wits Institutional Repository (WIReDSPACE).
b. Depositing in WIReDSpace: WIReDSpace is managed by the Library which accepts deposits of pre-prints (working papers), postprints and publishers’ final PDF versions, depending on the publishers’ copyright policies which can be found at http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/. Publishers that allow deposits of final PDF versions are listed at: http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/PDFandIR.php?la=en
The Library provides training to assist authors to deposit copies of their works directly into WIReDSpace. Please contact: Denise Nicholson (denise.nicholso(at)nwits.ac.za – 0117171929) or Charl.Roberts (Charl.Roberts(at)wits.ac.za – 01171711950).
2. Gold OA Route – There are 3 publishing options, namely -

b. In conventional peer-reviewed journals with an option to also publish on an open access platform (excessively high APCs)
c. In Open Access journals that charge APCs (excessively high APCs)
N.B. APCs are payable by the author, either from a Research Grant or from personal funds. Wits does not have an Authors’ Fund for Open Access publishing at this stage.
