REFWORKS (Online Personal Database and Bibliography Creator)

Welcome to RefWorks!

RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. You can use these references in writing papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography in seconds.

Create your own account:
Before starting to use RefWorks each user must register their own personal account. Follow these easy steps:

  1. Click on the RefWorks link (see below) or go to www.refworks.com/refworks from an on campus computer.
  2. Click on "Sign Up for an Individual Account"
  3. Enter the appropriate information and click on Register.

Once you ve setup your account you ll be ready to start using RefWorks.

Several data providers, including CSA, EBSCOHost, OCLC, OVID, ProQuest, BioMed Central, BioOne, ABC-Clio, NISC, Elsevier, Engineering Village, and SFX provide a direct export link within their interface. This is an easy way for new users to begin creating their personal database. Complete list of service providers currently compatible with RefWorks.

RefWorks Online Tutorial
In addition, there is a RefWorks tutorial available within the program itself (just click on the "Tutorial" link located at the top of each page) or you can go to http://www.refworks.com/tutorial.


Using RefWorks Off campus
RefWorks can be accessed off the Wits campus using the Wits Group Code. This code can be used once you ve created an account on RefWorks on the Wits campus. The get the RefWorks Wits Group Code contact any senior or branch Librarian.
