| Although not a gay-themed movie, this wildly entertaining and remarkably accomplished road film has been a lesbian favourite ever since it was released in 1991. Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon star in the title roles. They are two friends who make up their minds to leave their men and embark on a leisurely weekend outing. En route, however, their vacation turns deadly when Davis is assaulted and Sarandon guns down the would-be rapist. Stylish and witty, the film follows their series of escalating criminal escapades as the two women break away from the confines of a male-dominated world and search for their own identity. Sarandon and Davis create appealing and substantial characters. The microcosm of male society is represented by Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen and Brad Pitt. |
