The Commerce Library, together with the Wits Library of Management, is one of two libraries serving primarily the Commerce and Management Schools within the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management (the Law Library is part of the Oliver Schreiner School of Law ). The Commerce Library also serves the general library access and study needs of students registered in the Wits Plus Part Time Studies Centre of the University and has a full time member of staff available on Saturday afternoons for this purpose. It is situated to the west of the Tower of Light on the West Campus of the University.

Media

The Library has a large collection of books accompanied by compact disks (CD?s) These may be borrowed for a period of three days. Compact disks are kept behind the issue desk and are available on request.

Other items in the media collection include video and audio cassettes, slides etc. They may be requested from the Multimedia Centre on the second floor, Wartenweiler Library.

: : ADMISSION TO LIBRARIES
Loans
  • Books: The status of the user determines the loan periods for books in all libraries, unless these are coded non-circulating, in-library, three-day or overnight.
  • Journals: Current, unbound: In-library only
    Bound: 3-day loan
  • Non-book media: Mostly available for loan, except videocassettes which must be viewed in the Library.

Services
  • Renewals, Fines, Bookings and Holds
  • Interlibrary Loans, for material not available in the University Library, are available to fourth year and postgraduate students and staff.
  • Photocopying facilities are available in all libraries.
  • A substantial multi-disciplinary collection of audiovisual and multimedia material is available to all users in the Multimedia Centre on the second floor, Wartenweiler Library.
  • An extensive range of electronic resources, electronic databases and electronic journals is accessible through the Library web site. These include the eWits OPAC (the Library s online catalogue) and CDROM databases. Group training sessions on the use of these resources are offered by the Library s Education & Training section; individual assistance is always available from the branch librarians.
