The African International Economic Law Network (AfIELN) in conjunction with the Mandela Institute at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, hosted the 2nd African International Economic Law Network Conference on the 7-8 March 2013. The central theme of this conference was ‘Trade governance: Integrating Africa into the world economy through international economic law’. The theme tied in with the objectives of the AfIELN, which are to:
• Create a platform for the exchange of ideas on international economic law with a view to inform Africa’s international economic endeavors in its engagement with the global economy;
• Engage with higher institutions of learning, law schools in particular, in Africa to offer degree programs on international economic law so as to bolster the capabilities of Africa’s future generations in this field;
• Establish links with international economic law networks, universities, institutions in other regions and organizations around the globe.
Delegates to this conference included members of the Network - amongst them were prominent academics, emerging academics, African government representatives, regional economic communities, international organizations, international lawyers from law firms and economists.
