How to apply for the LLM

Details on how to apply for postgraduate programmes at the Wits School of Law

The opening date for applications to the LLM by Coursework and Research Report for the 2019 academic year is 5 March

The closing date for applications to the LLM by Coursework and Research Report for the 2019 academic year is 31 October 2018 for South African students and 30 September 2018 for international students.

We offer mid-year entry into our General, International Economic Law, Information & Communications and Commercial & Business Law LLM programmes. The opening date for mid-year applications is 5 March 2018 and the closing date is 30 April 2018.

Application must be made through the Wits online application system which can be accessed here.

The following supporting documents will be required with your Academic transcript; or if currently completing final year, an interim transcript

  • Degree certificate/s
  • CV
  • Letter of motivation

International students are required to submit the following additional documents:

  • SAQA
  • IELTS (if language of instruction at tertiary institution was not in English)

We admit only law graduates and legal professionals who have the interest, ability and time to conduct research at an advanced academic level. Entry to the program is limited.

 Admission requirements

  • An average of 65% in the final year of the LLB plus evidence of ability to conduct scholarly research and writing.
  • An average of 70% in the final year of the LLB without evidence of ability to conduct scholarly research and writing.
