The Wits International Office (WIO) is strategically positioned to lead and facilitate all internationalisation facets of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Functions range from attracting and recruiting international students and providing relevant services to them, facilitating the internationalisation strategy of the University, building and maintaining the University's international partnerships and collaborations and receiving international visitors/delegations.

Partnerships and Collaborations

The Wits International Office (WIO) maintains and seeks out new partnerships with other universities on and beyond the African continent. Through these linkages, and working closely with academic departments, the WIO is able to facilitate opportunities for Wits staff and students to particip ate in research collaborations and student and staff exchanges.

Programmes

The Wits International Office publicises a number of African as well as International Programmes which are facilitated throughout the world and focus on different disciplines or research areas.

Scholarships

The International Office regularly publicises both short and long term scholarships. These Scholarships are usually for a specific discipline or target a specific research or focus area.

Visitors

The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg welcomes visitors from all around the world. We have been privileged to welcome the Prime Minister of Sweden, leading academics and minds from universities in the top 100 as well as hosting the pioneers in fuel technology, TOTAL .


EU Saturn

Erasmus Mundus EU-SATURN (EUropean - South African programme in TUning for Regional Needs in higher education) is a mobility programme from the European Union coordinated by the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. The co-coordinator on the South African side is the University of the Free State at Bloemfontein. EU-SATURN provides scholarships for South African Masters, PhDs and staff to spend a period of study/research at one of the European consortium universities.
